How to set up a DLNA server

DLNA (Digital Living Network Alliance) is a standard within a network which ensures that computers, media players/servers and smart devices understand one another and enables the shared use of network music files.

How to set up a DLNA media server depends on the hardware/software solution in use. To find out, read the documentation for your device or look it up on the Internet.

Playing your music libraries

You can download an appropriate DLNA app. There are various options to choose from, such as “sync:stream” or “Media:connect”.
“sync:stream” is a simple app with no other options other than playing music on DLNA compatible devices. The “Media:connect” app has other options too.

Open the App Store and enter the name of the app you want in the search box. Select the app and download it. Install the app and then open it. Now open the SilverCrest SMART AUDIO App. From the “SOURCE” tab, select the “Music player” menu item.  Then go to the “BROWSE” tab and select the “Shared media” menu item. Here, you can select and play the music you have stored.

You then need to open the DLNA app again or the music will stop playing after about 2 minutes. This functionality is based on Apple’s battery power management system.

Playing your music libraries

You can download an appropriate DLNA app.
Open the Play Store and enter “BubbleUPnP” in the search box. You can now choose between a free or paid version of the app. The free app offers the basic options you need to play music.
Select the app and download it. Install the app and then open it.

Now open the SilverCrest SMART AUDIO App. From the “SOURCE” tab, select the “Music player” menu item.  Then go to the “BROWSE” tab and select the “Shared media” menu item. You can now select the “BubbleUPnP Media Server”. You can find the music you have stored under “Music” and you can now play it on your SilverCrest SMART AUDIO devices.

Music is selected on a DLNA media server in the local network via the SilverCrest SMART AUDIO app, as shown in the example: Playback of local music files from a smart device.

Select the name of the network DLNA server under ”Shared media” in the menu and start playing the tracks you want.
